Apprenticeships are different than indentures. The former is a way for a person to learn a trade, whereas the latter is a labor contract. One can learn a trade under an indenture, and some apprenticeships were contractual. The two are intertangled. There is an excellent article on the apprenticships of free persons of color available at https://chathamhistory.org/resources/Documents/PDFs/ResearchArticles/ApprenticeshipsInvolvingFreeChildrenofColor.pdf.
